Robert Pattinson was even 'counting sips of water' during extreme diet for The Batman

Robert Pattinson revealed that he had to take extreme measures when it came to his fitness and diet routine for The Batman.

He only had a couple of months to get in shape and transform into Bruce Wayne and said he even limited the number of sips of water he could have.

Speaking to People, he said: "I had about three months before the movie started, and then you're working out before and after work all the time.

"You just cut down and cut down and cut down before the couple of scenes with your shirt off, and you're counting sips of water."

The Twilight star even joked that knowing he had to be shirtless in a scene was a huge motivation.

"Oh yeah. Shame is my biggest motivator, 100%," he said.

A lot of the filming for The Batman was in the dark, which resulted in Robert's skin reacting to the lack of sunshine.

He confessed he was 'really dead' after filming.

The 35-year-old said: “I was really, really, really dead afterwards. I looked at a photo of myself from April and I looked green.

“The nature of the shoot was so kind of insular, always shooting at night, and I felt very much alone.

"You’re not really allowed out of the studio with the suit on, so I barely knew what was going on at all outside.”

Still, at least he kept chipper on set as he got into character. "I have to really, really feel like I’ve hit rock bottom," he explained to GQ magazine.

"Where right up until the moment I have to perform it’s, ‘Wow, I’m the most empty piece of s***’.”

"You have to feel the pain. And suddenly it’s like God gives you a little treat, ‘Here’s an idea you’ve never thought of before’."

While he was still filming for The Batman during the coronavirus lockdown in 2020, Robert admitted he wasn't following the fitness instructions set by his personal trainer.

Filming had to be temporarily shut down due to the lockdown two years ago, but that didn't mean Robert was worried about maintaining his Bruce Wayne look.

"I think if you’re working out all the time, you’re part of the problem," he said to GQ.

"You set a precedent. No one was doing this in the 1970s. Even James Dean – he wasn’t exactly ripped."
