Robert Parker's hotel portfolio goes up for sale

Robert and Gina Parker, owners of the Robert Parker Hotel Collection, have announced their decision to retire and sell the four properties in the group.

Dalhousie Castle & Aqueous Spa near Edinburgh, Doxford Hall Hotel & Spa at Alnwick, Ednam House Hotel in Kelso and Eshott Hall at Morpeth have been brought to the market by Christie & Co.

Dalhousie Castle is Scotland’s oldest inhabited castle, located eight miles from Edinburgh, with 35 bedrooms, a spa and dining in the Dungeon Restaurant.

The 200 year-old Doxford Hall Hotel has 41 bedrooms, a spa, dining and Europe’s largest yew tree maze.

Ednam House is a 33-bedroom property situated on the banks of the River Tweed, with the largest ballroom in the Borders.

And finally, Eshott Hall is a 17th century manor house with 11 bedrooms in the main hall and a further 13 bedrooms in adjacent buildings. It is also being jointly marketed by Galbraith and Sanderson Young for sale on the residential market.

Robert Parker commented: “It has been a real privilege to own these four hotels, but retirement becomes an inevitability as ones reaches the grand old age of 80 years.

“We have been blessed throughout our ownership of them, with fabulous staff who have delivered a quality level of environment, food and service which is second to none.

“I have no doubt that into the future we shall become regular paying guests - I simply have to go back to each of the hotels as often as I possibly can.”

The hotels are being marketed through Gary Witham, director of hotels at Christie & Co.

“These are stunning heritage assets in prime locations, which Robert and his team have placed well to perform very profitably going forward,“ he stated.

“Dalhousie Castle in particular will allow any investor to reap the rewards of the Edinburgh luxury leisure market and own a true slice of history and we look forward to hearing from interested parties.”

Christie & Co has also been instructed to sell Glenskirlie Castle, a family-run hotel located in Banknock, Stirlingshire.

The hotel is set in a 21st century castle, within 6.2-acres of landscaped gardens and has established itself as a wedding and events venue.

The property underwent a refurbishment in 2007 and now offers 15 ensuite bedrooms, including a bridal suite which includes its own jacuzzi bath and four poster bed. There is a 94-seat wedding ceremony room and an additional function room which can cater to 150.

The business has been owned and run by the Macaloney family for 30 years, but due to changing circumstances, they have decided to place the business for sale.

The current owner, Colin Macaloney, commented: “We have been proud to own and operate Glenskirlie for over 30 years and due to retirement have decided to pass the baton to ensure Glenskirlie continues to thrive and provide outstanding service for decades to come.”

Brian Sheldon, the regional director who is handling the sale, added: “The business has been owned by our clients for 30 years, with the castle being built in 2007, and it is now due to changing circumstances, they have decided to place the business for sale.”

Glenskirlie Castle is on the market at offers of £2.8m for the freehold going concern.
