Robert MacIntyre combines golfing skill and hometown pride at PGA Tour event

Scottish golf star Robert MacIntyre has been spotted wearing a Celtic-themed jersey during his most recent appearance on the PGA Tour.

The 28-year-old golfer, hailing from the picturesque town of Oban on the west coast of Scotland, is currently competing in the renowned WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona.

MacIntyre, known for his exceptional skills and impressive rise through the golfing ranks since turning professional in 2017, showcased both his sporting talent and hometown pride during his first round at the event.

As he made his way around the challenging TPC Scottsdale course, the golfer sported a shirt representing the Oban Celtic Shinty Club, a tribute to an institution that's close to both he and his families hearts.

MacIntyre put on an impressive performance, finishing his first round with a three-under-par scorecard, leaving him tied 16th in the leaderboard.

132 players are part of the field for the tournament including big names like world number one Scottie Scheffler, England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, and 2015 Masters winner Jordan Speith.

However, Rory McIlroy, who tasted victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last week, isn’t participating.

Speaking after his last appearance at the Phoenix Open in 2023, McIlroy said: "Yeah, look, I wouldn't say that this is a golf course that sets up terribly well for me. I struggle off the tee here. I feel like all the fairway bunkers are right in my landing zones."

Despite his Celtic links, when MacIntyre won the Canadian Open in June 2024, he actually had supporters green-side singing "Follow, follow, we will follow Bobby," to the tune of a popular Rangers anthem.
