Robert Lewandowski has already given his verdict on Benjamin Pavard amid Chelsea transfer links

Chelsea are interested in a move for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg. The Blues aren't alone in monitoring the 26-year-old though, as Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also in the race.

It comes as Thomas Tuchel looks to rebuff his defensive options going into the new campaign. The German coach has already lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, while the likes of Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta have been reportedly linked with moves away.

Discussing the issues at the back this summer, Tuchel said: “We are rebuilding, not improving the squad. We are rebuilding. This is always challenging but we are up for the challenge.”

A number of options have been circling the Blues this summer, from Matthijs de Ligt to Jules Kounde. However, Pavard appears to be the latest of an influx of potential signings in the transfer window.

The 26-year-old can play both centre-back positions as well as left-back and right-back, offering huge versatility at the back. With only two years left on his deal in Bavaria, he could prove to be a clever signing.

This is something only backed up by Robert Lewandowski, who praised him back in 2019. Speaking to Telefoot, he said: “I've already played against him, he is a very good player, for him it will be a new stage, it's a good transfer for Bayern. Before there were a lot of Spanish players, now I'm going to have to learn French.”

It remains to be seen whether a deal can be reached, but it could be an important one for the depth of the defensive unit going forward.
