Robert Lewandowski could be about to break record set by Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski could break a record held by Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo this weekend.

The Polish legend moved to Camp Nou in the summer having decided to head for pastures new following an eight-year spell with Bayern Munich. Some had questioned whether he would be able to replicate his form at Bayern in Spain, however, such questions have already beeen answered.

At 34, Lewandowski still possesses a lethal touch in front of goal and has scored 11 goals already at Barca. Eight of the goals that Lewandowski has scored have come in La Liga and this has put him on the verge of a record currently held by United ace Ronaldo.

Should Lewandowski manage to score a hat-trick in his next match - away at Mallorca on Saturday evening - he will smash the record for the most goals scored in a player's opening seven league fixtures. Ronaldo set what looked to be an unsurmountable record of 10 strikes in the 2014/15 season.

The Portuguese ace will wish he was in the goalscoring form Lewandowski is currently. Ronaldo has scored just once this season for the Reds having been the club's top scorer in the last campaign with 18 strikes to his name.

United's legendary striker will have the chance to impress again on Sunday when the Reds travel to Manchester City. A win will move Erik ten Hag's team to within two points of their rivals.
