Robert De Niro’s girlfriend Tiffany Chen has revealed that she suffered a “postpartum complication” following the birth of their daughter, Gia.
The actor, 79, and martial arts instructor, 45, welcomed their little one in April, which marked the arrival of the Taxi Driver star’s seventh child.
Chen is set to open up about the family in a new interview with presenter Gayle King for CBS Mornings which is scheduled to air in full this Friday.
A teaser for it states: “[Tiffany] reveals a postpartum complication to @GayleKing, speaking exclusively to CBS Mornings for her first interview since giving birth.”
The Oscar winner shocked many when he announced the birth of his seventh child whilst promoting his film About My Father in May.
Speaking to ET Canada at the time, presenter Brittnee Blair stated during their chat: “I know you have six kids,” to which the actor corrected her, replying: “Seven, actually. I just had a baby.”
Shortly afterwards, broadcaster Gayle King shared the newborn’s name on CBS Mornings, revealing that she had been named Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro by her parents.
Chen’s interview comes over a week following the death of De Niro’s grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez at the age of 19.
The Goodfellas actor said he and his family were “greatly appreciative” of condolences and asked for privacy.
“I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,” De Niro said, in a statement. “We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”
The death of Leandro De Niro Rodriguez was announced on July 4 by his mother Drena De Niro, 51, the eldest of the actor’s seven children.
De Niro adopted Drena after marrying his first wife, American actor Diahnne Abbott. The former couple also share son Raphael, 46.
Then in 1995, he welcomed twin sons Julian and Aaron, 27, with his former girlfriend, model Toukie Smith.
The Oscar winner also has two children, son Elliot, 25, and daughter Helen Grace, 11, with ex-wife Grace Hightower.
