Drena De Niro continues to mourn the loss of her son in an Instagram post of throwback photos of the two at the beach.
On Tuesday, the daughter of Robert De Niro added to her online tribute for her son, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, who died at the weekend aged just 19.
The post shows photos of the mother and son at the beach. In the first photo, they're standing knee-deep in the waves holding hands and looking at each other. The second image shows Leandro with his arms around his mother in an embrace as the two smile at the camera.
"Where it's always summertime," the grieving mother captioned the post, adding praying hands, heart, and wave emojis after.
On Sunday, the family released a statement that Robert De Niro's grandson, Leandro, had died. The teen and budding actor was said be have been found near ' white powder ' according to a police source. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Leandro was discovered by a friend, who was checking up on the teenager after not hearing from him.
Drena's beach throwback tribute followed other posts remembering her son. "I can barely type through my tears," she wrote on another post. "The same man that picked us up from the hospital when you were born drove us to the funeral home where I touched and held you for the last time."
The family has a wave of support on social media, from celebrities to everyday users of the app. "Leo will be your guardian angel always with you," model Naomi Campbell commented on one of Drena's posts.
Lenny Kravitz commented on Drena's first tribute stating, "Dearest Drena, sending my deepest condolences to you and the family. This is all beyond words at the moment." Other celebrities such as Linda Evangelista, Questlove, and Rosie Perez share their love and support through social media.
The heartbroken mother last posted about her son on Mother's Day, sharing photos of the two spending the day together.
Drena is the adopted daughter of Robert De Niro from his relationship with Diahnne Abbott. She's one of De Niro's seven children, with his seventh child arriving earlier this year just three months before Leandro's tragic death.
Leandro had plans of continuing the family legacy of acting, with roles in A Star is Born in 2018 and The Collection in 2005.
