Robby McCrorie sparks Rangers transfer 'exit' fear as Jack Butland's arrival has keeper considering his options

Rangers could lose Robby McCrorie as a result of signing Jack Butland, according to a report.

The keeper, who was handed a chance to impress towards the end of last season by Michael Beale, is thought to be considering his options after Butland arrived as the new No 1 following the departure of Allan McGregor, who is expected to retire this summer before returning to Govan for a lucrative testimonial against Newcastle United.

Several clubs are interested in McCrorie, reports the Scottish Sun, who claim he was promised a chance to claim the jersey for himself, although Butland’s capture has made that much less likely. McCrorie watched brother Ross leave Ibrox for Aberdeen two years ago, where he thrived and made a £2.5million move to Bristol City this summer. And now the Scotland Under 21 international is keen to see similar career progression rather than being stuck on the Light Blues’ bench.

McCrorie could have seen out his previous deal with Rangers and left for nothing at the end of last season. But he opted to pen a new deal in the hope that his chance would come.

After being included in several Scotland squads by Steve Clarke, regular game time is a must if he is to realise his international ambitions. Angus Gunn, Zander Clark and Liam Kelly and the established keepers in Craig Gordon;s injury absence, and lack of game time could see McCrory fall out of consideration.
