Robby McCrorie's hopes of making an early impression on new Rangers boss Michael Beale have been dashed by injury.
Beale has made sure to give both Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin a shot between the sticks during his first six games in charge and had promised McCrorie he'd also get a chance to impress. But Gers' third-choice keeper may have to wait a little longer for his opportunity after picking up a knock that's expected to keep him out of action for the next couple of weeks.
McCrorie, who usually travels with the Ibrox squad on matchdays to help his goalkeeping colleagues with their pre-match preparations, was absent for Sunday's win over Dundee United, with youngster Kieran Wright instead helping to carry the hampers at Tannadice. Beale is a big fan of the Scotland Under-21 stopper and was on the touchline for a Europa League qualifier away to Alashkert last season when the 24-year-old had to stand-in after a Covid outbreak forced former boss Steven Gerrard and a raft of first-team stars into quarantine.
Speaking after last month's win over Ross County, where McLaughlin was recalled to start his first league game since his Old Firm howler at Parkhead, Beale said: "We’ve got a fantastic young goalie in Robby McCrorie who we’ve got to at some point give an opportunity to and we’re aware of that."
