Robby McCrorie Rangers Celtic poser as pundit wonders if big chance will come in Old Firm derby

Michael Beale should look to third choice goalkeeper Robby McCrorie as next in line for a shot at Rangers.

That is the view of former Celtic defender Mark Wilson who claims that chopping and changing between veteran Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin won't do any good going forward. McLaughlin was backed for a start against Ross County but looked liable for the goal lost in an eventual 2-1 win at Ibrox with Beale defending his decision to include the 35-year-old as a rotation.

McGregor has been the de facto number one but pundit Wilson says McCrorie needs a shot after the 24-year-old has made no appearances so far this season. His last outing for Rangers came in the pressure-cooker of the Old Firm derby in which Steven Gerrard handed the Scot a big opportunity with injury and Covid issues. He pulled off a few big saves in the Light Blues' last league win over their rivals.

Wilson insists Beale must make a decision soon on his number one, which he already stated he has done, and that the young Scot should be in line for a chance. He told Sky Sports: "It's an interesting one and I think the Rangers supporters are getting frustrated.

"It's quite odd to me that Beale said he would rotate goalkeepers and he has said he will give young McCrorie a chance. Allan McGregor's time is coming to an end but Jon McLaughlin has made a few mistakes this year already.

"Beale has given him a fair crack at the whip but you have to draw the line somewhere. It was another mistake at the weekend which was similar to the one a few weeks ago against Kilmarnock.

"He has to stick with one of them. I would be interested to see McCrorie get a chance because there's some huge games coming up around the corner. They have to play Celtic three times in the space of two months. I wonder if the young keeper will get his opportunity in one of those."
