ROBBY MCCRORIE has set his sights on the Rangers number one jersey after committing his future to the club for another three seasons.
The 24-year-old was in the final months of his Light Blues contract as Rangers risked losing one of their brightest talents for free at the end of the campaign.
But positive discussions have now resulted in McCrorie putting pen-to-paper on fresh terms that will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2025.
McCrorie has had loans spells with Berwick Rangers, Greenock Morton, Queen of the South and Livingston as he has gained valuable first team experience.
And he will now aim to secure the Ibrox gloves in the coming years after pledging his future to boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
“I am delighted to have agreed a new deal," McCrorie said. "I believe I have an important role to play here and I know my opportunities will come. And when they do I will be ready to take full advantage of them.
"I have been working well with the coaching staff, especially Colin Stewart, and the manager. It also helps to be working with the two other keepers.”
McCrorie's talent and potential have seen him earn international recognition with Scotland under the guidance of manager Steve Clarke in recent times.
He remains behind Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin in Van Bronckhorst's plans but now has a starting jersey in his sight going forward after putting pen-to-paper with his boyhood heroes once again.
Van Bronckhorst said: “I am delighted Robby has agreed to sign a new deal with us. He is continuing to develop as a goalkeeper and has learned so much from both Allan and Jon.
"His recent Scotland call-up is testament to his quality, and his professionalism and attitude are a real credit to Robby and a real asset for the club.”
McCrorie has worked closely with goalkeeper coach Colin Stewart in recent seasons and has been a long-standing member of the Ibrox squad.
Clubs on both sides of the border had been keeping a close eye on his situation but it is Rangers who will now hope to see the best of him going forward.
Stewart said: “I’m delighted for Robby and he thoroughly deserves his new deal as he continues to show a brilliant attitude to his work, and he challenges both Allan and Jon every day in training.
“This new deal and his recent Scotland call-up show just how highly-rated he is at club and international level, and we look forward to working further with Robby in these next few years.”
