Robbie Savage sends message to Charlie Savage after Manchester United win vs Liverpool

Robbie Savage lauded son Charlie after Manchester United beat Liverpool 4-0 in their opening pre-season game on Tuesday.

Erik ten Hag selected a strong starting line-up for his first game in charge and United started the opening game of their pre-season schedule well. They pressed with intent from the first whistle and there were glimmers of Ten Hag's philosophy.

After goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred and Anthony Martial, United were 3-0 up at half-time and Ten Hag made significant changes at the break, making 10 substitutions, with Savage among them.

Savage, 19, looked comfortable against players much his senior and his second-half performance was commendable. Dad Robbie, who also came through United's academy, took to social media after the game to praise his son.

"So so proud," Robbie wrote. "I thought you were terrific, a Maradona turn on edge of your own box. Who did you get that from? Finally, a savage that can play."

Savage made his first-team debut for United against BSC Young Boys in the Champions League in December. He signed his first professional contract with United in April 2021.
