Robbie Savage makes Premier League title race prediction as Liverpool close gap to Man City

Robbie Savage still believes Manchester City are favourites for the Premier League title as their fate remains in their own hands.

City allowed their lead at the top of the Premier League table to narrow down to just three points after dropping precious points against Southampton and Tottenham recently.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have won their last six Premier League matches. Despite this, Savage still believe Pep Guardiola's men are firmly in the driving seat for the crown.

He said in his Daily Mirror column: “Calm down – it's still Manchester City's title to lose.”

“Despite Liverpool hitting six against Leeds and City's shock home defeat by Tottenham, the title is still in Pep Guardiola's hands.”

Savage added that City holding home advantage when the two sides meet in April could be key to deciding where the title ends up this season.

“Don't forget, Liverpool still have to go to the Etihad. Lose that one, and they will have it all to do again," he said.

The former Wales international believes Liverpool fans would rather be crowned Premier League winners this season than see their side triumph in the Champions League.

He added: “As I said in last week's column, if they avoid each other in the draw, it might be a Liverpool-City final in the Champions League.”

“But if I were a Liverpool fan, I would want to win the title more. In the last 30 years, they have won the European Cup more often than the Premier League.”

“To call yourself champions [of England], you have to be the biggest beast at home.”

“That's why it was such a big deal when Liverpool won the title in 2020 – because it was their first one in 30 years.”

“But if you ask the fans, I think they would want to be champions [of England] first, ahead of Champions League winners.”
