Robbie Savage fights back tears on live TV as his son scores first senior goal

Former Wales star Robbie Savage was left fighting back tears on live TV after his son scored his first goal in senior football

Savage was on duty for BT Sport Score when he learnt that his 19-year-old son Charlie had scored for Forest Green Rovers against Bristol Rovers, having joined the League One side on loan from Manchester United in January.

Having spotted Charlie's name appear on the screen in front of him, the ex-Leicester City, Birmingham City and Derby County man couldn't contain himself as he interrupted the show with a loud cheer.

Beaming with pride, Savage told host Jules Breach: "My boy's scored!" before punching the air.

Clearly emotional, he continued: "Go on my boy! Yes! What a goal, when I see it! Class man, all he's been through do you know what I mean, so proud of him."

Fellow panelist Chris Sutton tried to spoil the party by suggesting that VAR could rule the goal out - despite the technology not being used in League One.

However, the rest of the panel in the studio were buzzing for the former Wales international, with Breach smiling as she said Savage had been made a "very proud dad" by the goal.

Savage Jr had given his new side the lead against Bristol, but couldn't lead them to victory as Duncan Ferguson's men were beaten 3-1 in a crushing blow to their efforts to avoid relegation to League Two.

Forest Green currently sit bottom of the table with just five wins from their 36 fixtures so far this season and are 12 points adrift of safety with 10 games left to play.
