Robbie Savage disagrees with Ralf Rangnick's Cristiano Ronaldo decision for Man United vs Burnley

Robbie Savage disagrees with Ralf Rangnick's decision to drop Cristiano Ronaldo against Burnley, believing that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner should start every game.

Manchester United will be looking for an immediate response as they travel to Turf Moor on Tuesday night following on from their shock elimination from the FA Cup at the hands of Championship side Middlesbrough last week.

Ronaldo played the full 120 minutes of the defeat as United were eventually knocked out in a penalty shoot-out and it wasn't his best display.

The Portuguese missed a spot-kick in the first-half of the match - though he did go on to convert in the shoot-out - and also squandered several opportunities to secure the win.

United return to Premier League action following the winter break needing to collect all three points in order to not risk losing their spot in the top four.

Rangnick has taken the brave decision to drop Ronaldo for the game, instead opting to start Edinson Cavani up-front following the Uruguayan's return from South America.

However, Savage believes that a player of Ronaldo's calibre should be starting every match.

"I’d play Ronaldo everytime," he said on BT Sport.

"I know he played 120 minutes but physically he’s fantastic, will work hard, top goalscorer and if you need a goal perhaps he’ll come off the bench but I’d start Ronaldo.

"It’s not a bad replacement to have Cavani in."

Savage also revealed he likes the new midfield trio of Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, which starts against Burnley.

"I interviewed Scott McTominay yesterday [Monday], I said do you like the six or the eight?" he said.

"When he’s playing next to Pogba I do like that, Fernandes in front with Pogba who can pass it with McTominay in there, it’s like playing one six and two eights.

"First-half against Middlesbrough, it was quick, dynamic, I thought they should’ve been three or four up but they’ve gone out on penalties. It was a positive performance in terms of chances created, they’ve just got to put the ball in the back of the net. "
