Robbie Neilson provides Hearts transfer update with Tynecastle boss willing to play long game

Robbie Neilson admits he is willing to play the long game this transfer window as he bids to add quality to his Hearts squad.

It's set to be a massive season in Gorgie with the Jambos juggling domestic and European matters this upcoming campaign. After finishing third behind Celtic and Rangers in the league last term and reaching the Scottish Cup Final, the capital club secured a spot in the Europa League play-off round. Just potentially 180 minutes of action stands in the way of the group stages but even defeat will see guaranteed tournament proper football at Tynecastle with the parachute of the Europa Conference League.

Neilson and Co have been hard at work this summer so far both on and off the pitch with pre-season in full swing. Hearts have already had a warm-weather training camp and played a number of friendly matches. Off the park five new faces have arrived so far in the shape of Alan Forrest, Kye Rowles, Lewis Neilson, Alex Cochrane and Jorge Grant. More are expected to arrive in the coming weeks with Neilson vocal about beefing up his squad depth and adding firepower in the final third.

But he is willing to play the long game for that right addition - even if it takes him right up until the final moments of the summer transfer window.

He said: "The most important thing is bringing quality in.

"If it takes a week or four weeks it doesn't matter. We've got a long season ahead and a lot of games ahead. We've got to bring quality into the group.

"I don't really care when they come in, as long as they are good players.

"If it is the first of August or the 31st it doesn't matter.

"We're still looking to add to the squad. I think we need to."
