Robbie Keane to work with Leeds striker he once ranted about

Robbie Keane will be working with a striker that he once ranted about as he is set to be named as an assistant at Leeds United.

Sam Allardyce was named the new Leeds boss on Wednesday morning and Keane is set to be officially unveiled one of his assistants.

The Dubliner was called by Leeds Chief Angus Kinnear earlier on Wednesday and is set to be formally announced this evening.

Keane will work with Patrick Bamford as part of his job but once did rant about the English forward after he opted to not declare for Ireland.

He said: "The values are still the same, they will never change.

“You’re representing your country and if you want to play for Ireland, you come play for us. We’re not going to go and chase you.

“I’ll tell you with Patrick Bamford, he should be chasing us. He should want to come here. If he doesn’t want to, no problem.

“We shouldn’t be chasing people, by the way. That’s what winds me up. We shouldn’t be chasing people.”

Bamford would go on to play just once for England.

Leeds will face Manchester City this weekend in the first of Sam Allardyce's four games in charge.
