Retired tight end Rob Gronkowski has finally weighed in on the 10-year-old viral sensation “Baby Gronk,” who continues to be touted by his father as the next great football prospect.
Baby Gronk’s dad, Jake San Miguel, has been called out over the last few months for actively pushing for media appearances to make his son famous.
The 10-year-old, Madden San Miguel, has more than 320,000 followers on social media.
Gronkowski was asked about Baby Gronk, and more specifically, Baby Gronk’s dad, and his experience with the family’s efforts to capture viral fame.
“Yeah, it’s to a point where it’s awkward,” Gronkowski told Taylor Lewan and Will Compton of the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast on Barstool Sports. “Four weeks ago, my brother told me, ‘Yo have you seen Baby Gronk?’ Have I seen him? I go, ‘His dad hit me up 500 times already.’ He goes, ‘Don’t do anything.’ The dad is so annoying. And this was like five, six weeks ago. Then all of a sudden, two weeks later, it’s coming out everywhere. My brother died laughing. We’re gonna cease and desist Baby Gronk’s dad.”
There is no doubt that the push to make Baby Gronk viral has gone too far, so much so that athletes like Gronkowski are criticizing the motives of the older San Miguel.
Will this stop San Miguel from continuing to try to profit off of his viral son? Time will tell, but probably not.
