Tom Brady announced his second retirement, in which this time he says it’s “for good,” on Wednesday and now joins his former teammate Rob Gronkowski on the list of players who have retired from the NFL twice.
The duo played for nine seasons with the Patriots, then Gronkowski retired for a season before rejoining Brady with the Buccaneers for two seasons. They won four Super Bowl titles during that span. The tight end retired from the league a second time in June.
On Wednesday, Gronkowski posted a short, but sweet, message to his former teammate.
“Tommy, since I already wrote you a long retirement message last year, this time I shall say, welcome to the 2x retired club,” Gronkowski write. “You’re a legend and you always will be, my friend.”
Last year when Brady retired, Gronkowski posted a much longer message on social media for the quarterback. That time, the former tight end shared a video edit of their careers together.
