Following the news that talk show host James Corden had been - albeit briefly - banned from a New York restaurant over treatment of staff, news has resurfaced that his Gavin & Stacey co-star, Rob Brydon once sat down Corden to discuss his behaviour.
Although an apology has now been given and his ban rescinded, previous comments made by Corden's Gavin & Stacey co-star have now resurfaced. The 57-year-old, who is known for his role as Uncle Bryn in the BBC sitcom, said: "I’d known him for a while – we met on a big comedy-drama called Cruise of the Gods in about 2002. I was very impressed by him, although he was very young, very green – very provincial is how I would describe him, not unlike myself at that age. He is such a talent, James, good God he really is. So he was on a rollercoaster."
Despite praising Corden, 44, Brydon added: "He was burning the candle at both ends, and becoming ratty and irritable," before describing how he took him out for lunch to set the Late Late Show host straight.

During the lunch, Brydon recalled in an interview with The Independent in 2019, how he told Corden to "be careful". He said at the time: "I was sitting there thinking, ‘When am I going to bring this up?’ And I just said, ‘I don’t like hearing people saying this, because that’s not the person I know. So you need to be careful.’ And he took it in the spirit that it was intended."
Corden, himself, remembered the lunch during an episode of Desert Island Discs in 2012. He told host Kirsty Young: “Rob took me to lunch and said, ‘What are you doing going out all the time being photographed with all these people? This isn’t the you I know. But it is the you I am having to defend to people’.”
Earlier this year, the actor, writer and talk show host confirmed that he'd be stepping down from hosting The Late, Late Show in America. He is said to have extended his contract with CBS to present the show for one more year before finishing in the summer of 2023.
Following the news that Keith McNally, owner of Balthazar restaurant in Manhattan, had banned the UK comedian from his business and called him a "tiny cretin" of a man, the situation now seems to have been resolved with Corden 'apologising profusely' for his behaviour. . In his most recent Instagram post on Tuesday morning McNally said: "James Corden just called me and apologised profusely. Having f***** up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances."
