Rob Brydon just ruined Gavin & Stacey fans' day with Uncle Bryn comment

If the cast of Gavin & Stacey ever get interviewed it's a given they'll be asked about the smash BBC sitcom and the chances of returning.

And now Rob Brydon, aka Uncle Bryn, has said something we've not heard before - he's not got a "burning desire" to play his beloved character again.

We can't believe it.

On the subject of a possible comeback of the show, the Baglan-born actor, singer and comedian is quoted in the Daily Star on Wednesday, March 2 as saying: "No one’s said anything to me.

"And to be honest, I have no burning desire to play Uncle Bryn again.

"If Ruth [Jones] and James [Corden] write another one, I’d do it, but I’d be just as happy if the whole cast got together and went out for dinner."

In the past Brydon has spoken about his love of the show and his character of Bryn.

"I would do it. I would not be the fly in the ointment. I have to be careful about it actually," he said last year when WalesOnline did a big interview with him:.

"In my podcast with Sheridan (Smith) we talked about it and it actually became a news story. It was on the front page of the BBC News website and I think all I said to Sheridan, which is true, 'I would imagine they'll eventually do another one the way they left it.'

"In the past I’ve always said 'no they shouldn’t do it, leave people wanting more' that’s sort of my comedian instinct, but when I’ve said that it’s comes across negatively and people say to me ‘ooo get over yourself, how can you deny people?’ So I started to say ‘wouldn’t it be great?’ but that leads to people saying there definitely is one coming . But I’ve no knowledge of that happening at all."

One of the biggest cliffhangers of British TV (BBC)

The return, which is top of the list of desires for super fans of the show, would answer the question of whether Smithy (Corden) said yes to Nessa's (Jones) marriage proposal at the end of the 2019 Christmas special. It might also answer the long mystery of the fishing trip, but we doubt that even less than a return itself.

Either way, as long as people love Gavin & Stacey, the question will continue to be asked.
