Roald Dahl’s The Twits is coming to Netflix in 2025

Netflix will release The Twits, a brand-new animated film based on the same-titled Roald Dahl book, in 2025.

The Roald Dahl Story Company was acquired by Netflix in 2021, and The Twits is the first animated project to result from that deal.

The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory series is still in the works, according to the production company, and additional announcements will be made soon. But so far, the Dahl purchase has only resulted in a collection of short films directed by Wes Anderson that will premiere later this month, starting with the 40-minute The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

The Twits is being directed, produced, and co-written by Disney veteran Phil Johnston, who previously worked on Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia and Ralph Breaks the Internet (which he also co-directed with longtime partner Rich Moore).

As co-directors, Meg Favreau and Johnston wrote the script with Katie Shanahan and Todd Demong.

According to Netflix, the film follows mean and nasty Mr and Mrs Twit ,who also happen to own and operate the most disgusting, most dangerous, most idiotic amusement park in the world, Twitlandia.

Two courageous orphans and a family of magical animals are forced to become as cunning as the Twits when they gain control of their town in order to save the city.

It is understood that agreements were reached before the current strikes, and the Animation Guild contract applies to this movie.

Many of Dahl’s stories have received screen adaptations, with a couple having more than one adaptation such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches and Matilda.

The Twits isn’t the first time Netflix has adapted a Dahl story. The streaming company released Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical last year.

It looks like The Twits won’t be the Dahl either! Other future releases of Netflix include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator (first-ever adaptation), and a series of Dahl shorts directed by Wes Anderson coming out this month.
