Local workers and residents have blamed roadworks on A60 Mansfield Road for causing gridlock in the city centre during rush hour, with one describing the road as 'never too bad'. One lane of the main road was shut between its double roundabout with the A6130 by Forest Fields its junction with Hucknall Road on Wednesday (June 29) afternoon and evening.
While not officially confirmed, it appears gas works were being carried out, as Cadent Gas vans were seen along with workers. It's not known how long the work will go on for. Cadent Gas is a company that owns, operates and maintains the largest natural gas distribution network in the UK.
It caused traffic chaos during the evening rush hour, with queues forming back up A60 Mansfield Road from the direction of the city centre, on B682 Sherwood Rise heading towards the double roundabout and on A6130 Gregory Boulevard heading to the double roundabout too. NCT buses had to be diverted around the traffic because of how slow it was moving, with a number of other services delayed.

Traffic did ease once rush hour was over. And local workers and residents have said it's not usually like that in the area.
Caroline Conheeney, 58, who works in the area and lives in Arnold, said: “It’s a lot busier than it usually is. I need to get home on time today and I’ve left work late, so it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
“It’s because of the roadworks though, there are some in the centre of Arnold at the moment and they really cause a backlog. I’m getting the 58 bus back and there’s usually a good service, it gets me to where I need to be, but I want to learn to drive.”
Becca Jones, 29, from Hucknall, said: “If I drive, I don’t usually have any problems getting around. If I use the bus, I use the threes from trentbarton.
“It’s only ever really busy around here usually during rush hour, but even then it’s never too bad and it keeps moving. When you see a closed road sign or roadworks, you think ‘oh my goodness’, but there are so many different side streets around Nottingham to get around.”
Adam Poke, 37, who works in the city centre and lives in Sherwood, said: “It’s pretty much the roadworks, I walk up and down here every day to work and it’s not usually too bad. The works looks like they’re causing bad delays today.”
