The amount one Merseyside council made last calendar year through parking charge notices (PCNs) has been revealed.
The ECHO submitted a Freedom of Information Act request as to how much Sefton Council made, the number of parking tickets issued and what road saw the most tickets issued. Records show that the council managed to rake in just shy of the £1m mark through PCNs alone.
The council noted that some of the money raised through parking tickets came from ones issued in 2021, but had been paid during 2022, it was also noted that not all the PCNs issued during 2022 had been paid by the end of the year. In total, the council managed to make £969,073 in parking tickets.

During the 12 months, Sefton Council revealed it issued 32,922 parking tickets. The road that saw the most tickets issued was Lord Street in Southport.
Formby continues to be a hotspot for parking issues, with Merseyside Police also having to step in to try and tackle the recurring issue that happens during the hot weather each year. In July 2021 more than 100 tickets were handed out after a police patrol was dispatched to deal with concerns over beach-goers' parking.
A complaint by one resident sparked the arrival of officers who dished out 113 fines.
Sefton Council declined to comment.
