Road taped off and emergency services scramble after fire breaks out on street

Neighbours are being urged to keep their windows and doors closed after a fire broke out at a commercial building in Trafford. Emergency services descended on Glebelands Road, in Sale, after 1pm this afternoon (May 9).

The road is currently closed off between the A56 Cross Street and Gordon Avenue, with fire crews in attendance alongside police. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) says as many as 25 firefighters have been dealing with the incident.

A cordon is in place with officers keeping members of the public away from the scene. It is understood that there have been no injuries as a result of the fire.

In a post on Twitter at around 3.40pm, GMFRS urged residents to avoid the area where possible. It also urged residents to keep windows and doors closed 'while there's smoke in the area'.

Images from the scene show firefighters damping down the scene from an aerial ladder, having been dealing with the blaze throughout the afternoon. Some fire crews left the scene at around 4pm, while others remain in the area.

A spokesperson for GMFRS told the Manchester Evening News : "Just after 1pm this afternoon (Monday, May 9) we were called to reports of a fire involving a commercial premises on Glebelands Road, Sale. Six fire engines and two aerial appliances were mobilised to the scene, and crews wearing breathing apparatus have worked hard to contain the fire and prevent further spread.

"Firefighters are currently damping down any remaining hotspots. Road closures remain in place around the scene, and residents in the vicinity are advised to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area while crews carry out their work.”

Details about the cause of the blaze are yet to be confirmed. Greater Manchester Police has been approached for further comment.
