Double red lines will be installed on a section of the A38 near Bristol Airport to stop motorists using the side of the road to drop off and pick up passengers. The lines will replace existing double yellows, which are being ignored by some motorists and causing serious issues in the area.
According to the Bristol Airport policing team a motorcyclist sustained significant injuries recently after being knocked off his bike as a direct result of illegal parking on that stretch of road. Work to install the lines is due to take place between Monday, July 3 and Friday, July 7.
There will be temporary traffic lights and lane closures in place between 8pm and 6am. Once in place they will be enforced by the Bristol Airport policing team and anyone parked on them will be issued with a fine.

The red lines are only the second of their kind in North Somerset, the others are at Ashton Court. Double red lines mean there is no stopping at any time and anyone caught doing so could face a fine up to £70, according to the AA.
Inspector Christian Gresswell from Bristol Airport policing team said: “We welcome the introduction of this red route and believe it will help reduce the risk of incidents caused by illegal, inconsiderate and dangerous parking.

"Only recently a rider was knocked off his motorbike as a direct result of illegal parking, sustaining significant injuries. This is the type of incident that we are looking to prevent and the red route will assist in making the roads safer for the public”
People dropping off and picking up from the airport should use the waiting zone at the entrance of the Silver Zone car park. This offers up to one-hour of free parking and provides access to a frequent bus service to the Terminal building.
Bristol Airport is also served by public transport routes. The airport currently has several scheduled bus services to it, many of which operate almost 24 hours a day.
Cllr Hannah Young, North Somerset Council's executive member with responsibility for highways, said: "The A38 is a major route and the inconsiderate actions of some drivers are putting the lives of others at risk, creating a safety issue around the airport and causing substantial delays to other motorists.
"We hope these lines will solve the problems and those who ignore the rules will be fined. There will be no tolerance."
