Road closures to hit Knowsley to make way for Jubilee parade

Residents in the Knowsley Village area are gearing up for a special Queen’s Jubilee parade which pays homage to the area’s “rich history” of hosting royal celebrations.

The parade, taking place on June 4 and based on the theme of ‘Kings Queens and Mr Lear’, draws on the area’s folklore and its association with celebrated poet and artist Edward Lear, who once lived at Knowsley Hall. Residents in the area have been asked to take part in what’s expected to be a colourful parade.

Officially starting at 2pm, the parade will require a number of road closures in the Knowsley village area, with the route starting at St John Fisher Parish Church and finishing at Tithebarn Road in Knowsley Village. The parade is expected to last up to 45 minutes as it covers a one mile route, however the road closures will be in place for longer in preparation.

According to Knowsley Council, a partial road closure will be in place from 12.30pm to no later than 4.00pm on Tithebarn Road. This will begin at the entrance to St. John Fisher Primary School car park on Shop Road and end at the turning onto Frederick Lunt Avenue.

A full road closure will be in place along the full length of Frederick Lunt Avenue from 1.30pm at the earliest and will remain in place until 3.30pm at the latest. A partial road closure will also be in place on Sugar Lane, beginning at Frederick Lunt Avenue and ending shortly after Knowsley Village Primary School.

However this closure will be in place for a shorter period for the parade, lasting for a maximum of one hour from 2pm at the earliest and remaining in place until 3pm at the latest. Residents in the area are also being asked to keep the route free from cars where possible by parking on driveways or moving cars into nearby roads.

Those impacted by the closures who wish to move their cars are being asked to do so before midday - prior to the closures being put in place. Residents along the parade route are also being encouraged to decorate the front of their homes and gardens with bunting, flags or original artwork.

Across Merseyside, hundreds of road closures are expected to be put in place for parties to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations.
