Road closures in Glasgow for Ed Sheeran stadium gig at Hampden Park

Ed Sheeran is days away from his two Glasgow gigs at Hampden Park.

The Thinking Out Loud singer plays Scotland's national stadium on Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17.

With the Friday gig sold out and most seats gone for Thursday, droves of fans from across the city and beyond will be descending on the South Side.

And as ScotRail's services remain subject to cancellation, a number of punters will be heading to Hampden by car.

Ahead of the run of concerts Glasgow City Council (GCC) have announced some road closures that are in place over both days.

Sommerville Drive and Letherby Drive will be completely closed off to vehicles from 6pm on Thursday until 11.59pm on Friday.

The only vehicles that will be allowed to enter both roads are emergency motors responding to an incident or those who have secured permission from the council's filming and events team.

A GCC statement read: "Roads affected and dates and times of restriction applying to all vehicles with the exception of an emergency service vehicle carrying out an emergency response or vehicles given permission from Glasgow City Council filming and events section.

"Prohibition of vehicle movements are from 6pm on June 16 to 11.59pm on June 17 for Sommerville Drive for its full length and Letherby Drive for its full length."

The council have already planned other road closures ahead of a string of huge events in the city over the coming weeks.

Liam Gallagher, Calvin Harris, Gerry Cinnamon and Coldplay are all playing in Glasgow, with road restrictions in place as a result.

The same applies for the Men's 10k on Father's Day, Sunday, June 19.

Also gearing up for the gig are some of the eateries surrounding Hampden Park.

Last week Glasgow Live reported that Frousoulla's in Battlefield re-opening for two nights only to celebrate the popstar's arrival, with a special set menu.

Frousoulla's in Battlefield closed for refurbishment during the Covid-19 pandemic.

For more information on all upcoming travel restrictions head to the Glasgow City Council website.

Tickets are still available for Ed Sheeran's gig on June 16 from Ticketmaster.
