Road closures as site investigations begin for motorway extension

Traffic has already been heavy on the stretch of the New England Highway at Tarro as column repairs to the rail bridge take place.

MOTORISTS will continue to experience delays with changed overnight traffic conditions from Black Hill to Tomago.

From Monday October 16 there will be lane closures and temporary speed reductions as part of site investigations for the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.

Traffic has already been heavy on the stretch of the New England Highway at Tarro as unexpected column repairs to the rail bridge take place. The closure came on the last weekend of the school holidays, causing significant delays for those returning to Newcastle from the coast.

Motorists can expect the following changed overnight traffic conditions:

  • New England Highway eastbound lane closure between John Renshaw Drive and Anderson Drive from 8pm to 4.30am, Monday October 16 to Friday October 20.
  • M1 Motorway southbound shoulder closure from 8pm to 4.30am, Monday October 16 and Tuesday October 17.
  • Lenaghans Drive northbound shoulder closure from 8pm to 4.30am on Tuesday October 17.
  • New England Highway westbound shoulder and John Renshaw Drive slip lane to M1 closure from 8pm to 4.30am, Tuesday October 17 to Thursday October 19.
  • Pacific Highway southbound lane between Old Punt Road and Tomago Road from 8pm to 4.30am, Friday October 20.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
