Police have closed a road in Neath following a "serious" crash on Saturday afternoon which resulted in a motorcyclist being taken to hospital.

The incident happened just after 1pm and involved just one motorbike. The male rider was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, police said.

South Wales Police said it had closed the B4290 Old Road, in Skewen, in both directions and that delays should be expected.

The force tweeted just after 1.30pm on Saturday that the road was closed between Cardonnel Road and Heol Compton Road near Neath Abbey.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix reported that traffic is slow in the area due to the incident while police advised drivers to find alternative routes.

Police said they had no information on the man's condition.
