Road closed as man 'covered in blood' screams he's been 'stabbed in the eye'

Armed police swooped on a residential street this morning after a man was reportedly stabbed in the eye.

Milton Road in Widnes was shut between Rose Street and Lower House Lane as officers flooded the area after being called to the scene at 8.25am. An ambulance also attended.

Cheshire Police has confirmed that a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with “serious facial injuries” but haven't said whether those are believed to be as the result of an assault. Passers-by described seeing the casualty “covered in blood”.

One witness said the he emerged from one of the properties “one sock on, one sock off” and “screaming” that he had been “stabbed in the eye”, before being taken away by ambulance.

When the ECHO visited the scene, the street remained shut with detectives arriving and stepping beyond the cordon tape.

Several armed officers remained in the area before gradually dispersing.

One officer in PPE gloves and mask was taking photographs around the property where the “disturbance” was reported to have taken place.

There had been no arrests in connection with the incident at time of writing.

A force spokeswoman said: Officers were called at 8.25am today, Friday, March 31, following reports of a disturbance on Milton Road, Widnes.

"Patrols, supported by firearms officers, swiftly attended the scene and found a 25-year-old man with serious facial injuries.

"He was taken to hospital where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

"Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing.

"Anyone with any information is urged to contact Cheshire Police via cheshire.police.uk or call 101 quoting IML 1512733."
