A road has been shut as the National Trust closed off the two car parks at the beach to new visitors.
Lifeboat Road in Formby, where one of the two car parks for the popular beach is based, has been shut by police as people are asked to avoid travelling to the coast by car. Merseyside Police confirmed it had shut the road and National Trust posted on social media that both car parks are now full as thousands are expected to fill Merseyside beaches.
The daytripper hotspot saw Merseyside Police guarding the Victoria Road car park entrance yesterday as the Trust was forced to shut the car parks following a surge in visitors to the golden beach. Now, officers have taken a further step to deter people from driving to the beach rather than walking or taking public transport.

As people enjoy the glorious sunshine extra precautions have been taken to avoid the spike in traffic issues and parking issues that comes with the increased volume of cars in the area. National Trust posted on Facebook at 11.05am: "Live parking update. Both car parks are now full and closed for the rest of the day. This is to keep everyone wandering across the site safe and prevent queuing.
"Please travel by train or plan your visit for a quieter day. Thank you for your support."
The UK is set to see a spike in temperatures over the next three days as the country prepares for extreme heat and sunshine. Earlier today Sefton Council released a warning for those making the trip to the borough's coastline, reminding people they need to stay hydrated and stay out of the sun where they can.
Margaret Jones, Sefton Council’s Director of Public Health said: “While I can fully understand that many people's thoughts will turn to visiting the coast, what we need to remember is that on the beach, we are fully exposed to the effects of the sun and heat, especially if we are not prepared.
“It is important to stay out of the Sun as much as possible during the hottest part of the day. While it is so sunny if we do go out, we should wear sunscreen and a hat and try and stay in the shade. We should try and keep cool this could be indoors or outdoors in the shade.
“If you do want to go out, staying local in areas such as parks where trees and shelters can provide shade will be cooler and much more suitable for young children and elderly people who can succumb to the potentially dangerous effects of heat and dehydration very quickly.”
