Road closed and motorbike rider, 27, airlifted to hospital after crash

Witnesses have been urged to come forward after a biker was airlifted to hospital following a collision in Runcorn.

Cheshire Police said officers were called to the A533 Rocksavage Expressway near junction 12 of the M56 at around 1.50pm on Monday.

A force spokesman said the incident involved a Honda motorbike and the 27-year-old rider from Liverpool had “come off” the vehicle.

He was taken to Aintree University Hospital by air ambulance, which landed on the carriageway.

A road closure was in place while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The spokesman said the scene was cleared by 4.40pm.

Rocksavage Expressway is part of the wider road network managed by the Mersey Gateway project, which tweeted several updates relating to road closures.

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 1248392.
