Road closed after Nottinghamshire Police vehicle involved in collision with car in Sherwood

Nottinghamshire Police have released a statement following an incident in Sherwood. On Thursday, November 24, at 8:45am, officers received reports of a collision between a police vehicle and car.

Due to the incident, Edwards Lane was closed shortly before 9:30am at Fiveways roundabout. Chief Inspector Riz Khan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers were called to Edwards Lane, Sherwood, shortly before 8.45am today (24 November), following reports of a collision between a police vehicle and a car.

“An officer was checked for injuries at the scene by our colleagues at East Midlands Ambulance Service. Police remain at the scene as an investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened and a temporary police cordon has been set up while this takes place.

“Road closures remain in place in Edwards Lane, so we would please ask drivers and members of the public to avoid the area while our investigation continues.” Residents in the area and hospital visitors have expressed concern over the incident.

Sherwood resident, Karen Davidson, 34, had an appointment at the hospital. She said: “I came out and there was all this police here I have no idea what’s going on.

"Police are just ushering people to the correct place at the top and bottom of the road it seems. Because I had a hospital appointment I didn’t drive but this a popular bus route so many people coming out will have to walk to the bottom or get a taxi."

A Sherwood resident who did not wish to be named said: "They've been here since about 9am. Police knocked on the door to say did you see anything, but I dunno what's happening."

Another resident who wished to remain anonymous stated: "They’ve been here for a while but the police officers are being helpful. Because I live close to the bus stops right outside my house pretty much, but I’m gonna walk down valley road to get the 58.”

Anyone who has information or dash-cam footage of what happened is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 136 of 24 November 2022. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
