Hyderabad: Five people were killed and 10 others injured when the tractor trolley they were travelling in was hit by a lorry at a petrol bunk on the outskirts of Munagala mandal centre of Suryapet district in Telangana on Saturday midnight.
Police said on Sunday that about 38 people from Munagala village were returning home in the tractor trolley after attending the Maha Padi pooja at Ayyappa Swamy temple situated at left bank of the nearby Sagar Canal.
The tractor trolley they travelling in was coming in the wrong route and was hit by a lorry on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad National Highway. As a result the tractor trolley overturned and the injured were trapped under it.
After receiving the information about the accident, police and officials reached the spot and started rescue operations. As there was not enough ambulances to transport the injured to Kodada hospital, they had to be transported in the available vehicles.
Police also said Tanniruu Pramila (35), Chintakayala Pramila (33), Uday Lokesh (8), Naragani Kotaiah (55), breathed their last on the way to the hospital while another woman Gandu Jyoti (38) died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Those injured who are in critical condition were shifted to Khammam and Suryapet hospitals for better treatment. The lorry, going towards Hyderabad from Vijayawada. dragged the tractor trolley for 50 meters after it hit hard, police added. (UNI)
