RNLI lifeguard rescue truck sinks into sand and disappears on Crosby beach

An RNLI rescue boat sank in the River Mersey after getting stuck in the mud.

An RNLI lifeguard Ford Ranger truck became stuck in the mud on Crosby Beach at around 3pm on Monday, June 20. Lifeguards dug around the wheels of the truck to try and recover the vehicle, but were forced to leave it to be submerged underwater as the tide came in.

The RNLI has now confirmed they were not able to recover the vehicle. All RNLI lifeguards were safely evacuated from the vehicle and no one was hurt.

People watched as the tide gradually made the truck disappear underwater.

A spokesperson from the RNLI said: "On Monday, around 3pm, a lifeguard vehicle (Ford Ranger truck) became stranded in thick mud on Crosby beach. RNLI lifeguards were safely evacuated from the vehicle and no one was harmed.

"Despite efforts to recover the vehicle, due to the nature of the beach, this was not possible, and the vehicle became submerged in water as the tide came in. All correct procedures being followed, but due to the difficult conditions and topography of the beach, the vehicle is unfortunately unsalvageable.

"The loss of the truck has not impacted continuing services.”
