RMT give update on remaining rail strikes amid Network Rail pay offer

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union has given people an update on two remaining strike days after Network Rail action was suspended.

RMT have announced planned strikes on March 16 and 18 by members at 14 train operators are still set to go ahead but it is "available for discussions" on a resolution to the dispute. The union said an invitation from the Rail Delivery Group for talks earlier on Wednesday was on the condition the strikes next week were suspended.

A statement said: "Today the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) invited us to discussions on the current dispute but on the condition that the planned strike action on 16 and 18 March is suspended. The RMT NEC has decided that the scheduled action will remain in place but that the union will be available for discussions and will attend any meetings on creating a resolution to the dispute through an improved offer.

"The union will contact the RDG seeking such a meeting."

It comes a day after the RMT suspended strikes by workers at Network Rail following a "new and improved" offer on pay and conditions.

Members were due to walk out from from 2am on March 16 until 1.59am on March 17 alongside train company staff. There could still be disruption if workers employed by train companies do take part in these strikes.

Network Rail chief executive Andrew Haines said: "We are relieved for our people, passengers and freight customers that industrial action in Network Rail has now been suspended. We look forward to further information on plans for a referendum."
