Riyad Mahrez sends stark Man City warning to Arsenal ahead of pivotal Premier League title clash

Riyad Mahrez has insisted Manchester City will not be taking their foot off the gas after securing a spot in the FA Cup final with victory against Sheffield United. City's Algerian winger was the man of the moment on Saturday afternoon as his hat-trick placed Pep Guardiola's team on the brink of completing part one of their possible treble.

After a Champions League quarter-final triumph against Bayern Munich and another cup knockout clash, the major challenges do not get any easier for City. This Wednesday the reigning champions take on Arsenal at Etihad Stadium where a victory would see their Premier League title hopes increase drastically.

Without even playing in the league, City were handed a major title boost as the Gunners were held by Southampton at Emirates Stadium on Friday evening.

The title race is delicately poised ahead of the game where it really could be winner takes all. A City victory would place them two points behind Arsenal with two games still in hand over Mikel Arteta's men, meanwhile, Arsenal taking all three points would open the gap up to eight and thus mean it is back in the hands of the Gunners.

Despite their stuttering recent form, City having at least four extra fixtures to play could hand Arsenal an obvious boost. However, Mahrez's verdict after the FA Cup win hints that won't be an issue in Manchester with a clear message to Arsenal ahead of their clash and in the general race to lift silverware come May.

"Going to the final of the FA Cup is amazing so now we have to concentrate on the league and the next game against Arsenal," he said, speaking to ITV Sport. "I think we have a very good squad and team, everybody pushes each other and gives a contribution and that is the way to be to have success and we have to keep going like this."
