Riyad Mahrez on key to Brighton victory as Man City legends enter Premier League Hall of Fame

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Thursday, April 21.

Mahrez on key to Brighton victory

Patience was a virtue for City and Riyad Mahrez as they headed straight back to the Premier League summit with a 3-0 victory against Brighton on Wednesday night. After watching rivals Liverpool smash neighbours Manchester United on Tuesday night, the stage was set for Pep Guardiola and his star-studded team 24 hours later at the Etihad Stadium.

It was a challenge they, ultimately, accepted and embraced. Goals from Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva did the damage for City as they restored their one-point advantage at the top - with both teams having six matches to play in what is shaping up to be a mouth-watering end to the season.

City found chances hard to come by in the opening 45 minutes as they came up against a confident Brighton side who had been energised by victories over top-four contenders Tottenham and Arsenal. Both results came in north London and offered a clear warning sign to Guardiola.

City legends named in Hall of Fame

Manchester City icons Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany are to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame was established in 2021 as a way for the Premier League to recognise and celebrate the 'exceptional skill and talent of individuals who have graced the Premier League since its inception'. It's now the highest individual accolade that the league awards to players.

Eight former players are welcomed into the Hall of Fame every year and six more inductees have now been confirmed after it had already been announced that Wayne Rooney and Patrick Vieira were to be honoured. Joining the duo will be City's first representatives in heroic captain Kompany and legendary striker Aguero.
