A riverkeeper patrolling the Potomac River following the American Airlines plane crash on Wednesday night made a significant discovery. Among the items found were pages from a flight manual, a woman's sweater, and what appeared to be a cushion from a pilot's seat. These items were located near the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge, approximately two miles away from the crash site.
Dean Naujoks, a member of the environmental group Potomac Riverkeeper, was responsible for finding these items. He mentioned that everything he found was covered in jet fuel, indicating the severity of the crash. Naujoks expressed his empathy for the individuals to whom these belongings belonged, describing the situation as heartbreaking.

With permission to access the area, Naujoks navigated his boat to the scene and discovered the items in shallow coves along the river. Additionally, he recovered a piece of the interior wall from the passenger cabin that had surrounded a window. All the recovered items have been handed over to the FBI for further investigation.
Naujoks reflected on the somber nature of the discovery, stating, 'It's just a sad day on the river.' The presence of these items serves as a poignant reminder of the human impact of the tragic event. The investigation into the plane crash continues, with each new finding shedding light on the incident and its aftermath.
