Fashion fans have discovered a secret eBay shop where River Island is selling full-price clothing for as little as £10. The eBay store is run by River Island itself, rather than it being others selling preloved clothing from the brand.
The eBay store sees preloved styles direct from River Island at a heavily discounted price. There are currently more than 700 styles to choose from on the River Island eBay page.
The page has been started as part of River Island's takeback scheme with Reskinned. Some of the items on the page are still currently full price on the River Island - and despite being preloved, they have been treated to look brand new.
Among the secondhand styles are a pair of pink swirl print trousers with feather trims, which are priced at £18, despite still being full price on the River Island website for £45. Meanwhile, a green viscose dress with faux fur cuffs is £20, down from the RRP of £65 on the website.
Another stunning dress available for considerably less is the River Island Womens Midi Dress Plisse Cream Floral Mesh Long Sleeve Tie Waist. The flattering cinched waist dress which is perfect wedding guest attire would set you back £60 on the River Island, but is £10 on the eBay store.
We were also blown away by the stunning River Island Womens Slip Dress Yellow Floral Ruffled Mini Off the Shoulder Top. This usually costs £65, but again, is £10 on the discount page.
It’s a budget-friendly option for those looking for wedding guest outfits or festival looks that may only be worn a handful of times before being recycled once more. The takeback scheme, in partnership with Reskinned, launched last year, and is now available in over 200 River Island stores. Reskinned specialises in reselling, reusing and recycling old clothes to prevent them ending up in landfill.
For the takeback scheme, customers are encouraged to bring a minimum of three items, from any brand, into participating stores, or arrange a drop-off online. A £5 gift voucher is given as a thank you, which can be redeemed off a minimum £40 order at River Island stores or online.
Items are hand-checked and ozone-cleansed by Reskinned using a zero water, eco-friendly cleaning process. Shoppers will then have the opportunity to purchase these revamped, River Island styles via the eBay store.
River Island’s head of corporate responsibility and sustainability, Jose Arguedas, said: “This represents a huge step forward in our ongoing efforts to reduce fashion waste. We look forward to not only maintaining awareness of recycling clothes with our takeback scheme, but also seeing iconic pieces being brought back to life through a circular fashion economy.”
There’s a range of clothes for men and women on the retailer’s pre-loved eBay shop, and we may see some children’s styles appear soon, which will be perfect for mums looking for cut-price kids outfits.
