If there's one fashion trend that rarely goes out of style it's rope sandals - and a pair by River Island are proving popular.
Once worn by Roman gladiators, these woven shoes have had a resurgence in the 21st century. Now, rarely a summer goes by without some variation hitting the runway.
Over the past few seasons, we've seen tassels, pyramid studs and even bows added to these iconic sandals. However, in 2020, shoppers fell in love when Chanel released its take on the cord rope sandal.

Priced at £920, the sandals were almost too beautiful to wear - nevertheless they were snapped up by celebrities and influencers alike. Two years on, the sandals are still in vogue but are now being sold at an inflated price.
Second hand retailers are currently charging between £1,000 to £1,200 for the sling back flats. Fortunately, River Island has launched rope sandals as part of its summer collection - and they're only £48. The 'rope detail chunky sandals' have a similar sling back design to Chanel's version.
They feature a double strap, gold hardware and are made out of faux leather with a quilted finish. The sandals are available in beige and black.
