River City actor Darren Brownlie appears to have taken a swipe at the SNP's Kate Forbes following her comments about gay marriage.
The Scottish Government's Finance and Economy Secretary launched her bid to become the country's next First Minister on Monday, but just hours later she said in an interview that she would not have legalised same sex marriage.
Darren, who plays Mickey Duffy in the BBC soap, has today told his followers and fans on Instagram that those who are against same sex marriage are "homophobic".
In a lengthy post, he said: "Personally, I do agree with a lot of what my community are saying. I don't feel it's wrong to teach children that love is love and that same sex marriage and relationships should be accepted as normal, not tolerated.
"And for me, again personally, if you don't agree with this. You are homophobic. We all share a world, and are discovering everyday that it's more complex then we ever expected.
"I know that straight white rich people think it's more theirs than anyone else's, which of course is wrong, but we need to think of the world we want to live in, and who we want running our country."
Forbes is up against Health Secretary Humza Yousaf and MSP Ash Regan in the battle to succeed Nicola Sturgeon.
But the evangelical Christian’s rejection of same sex marriage triggered a backlash amongst colleagues and allies.
She was then blasted for comments on having children outside of marriage after she said: “For me, it would be wrong according to my faith, but for you I have no idea what your faith is. So, in a free society you can do what you want.”
