River Annan and local history to come under the spotlight in new BBC Scotland show

The River Annan and local history are woven into an episode of a new BBC One Scotland’s series being shown on Monday.

Viewers will be able to tune into the programme at 8.30pm to see presenter Paul Murton explore the river from where it rises above the Devil’s Beef Tub to the Solway Firth.

It’s the third episode of the second series of the popular Grand Tours of Scotland’s Rivers.

Paul said: “I’m setting off down the River Annan on a grand tour which weaves a route through time”.

On the way he will sample some dubious-smelling “healthy” spa water; hear “disturbing evidence” that Robert the Bruce “may have been an Essex boy” and discover the explosive Devil’s Porridge at Eastriggs.

The presenter will also follow in the footsteps of Robert Burns by “taking a dunk in the briny close to where the river meets the sea” at the Brow Well.

Two previous episodes in this second series have focused on the River Dee, and these are available to watch on BBC iPlayer, with further episodes due to feature the North Esk, Teviot and Ythan rivers.
