Barcelona and Brazil great Rivaldo would be excited to see what Erik ten Hag could do should Manchester United appoint him as manager. The 52-year-old Ajax coach has emerged as a preferred candidate to take over and figures in the Old Trafford boardroom have interviewed him.
Further talks will be held as Ten Hag faces competition from Mauricio Pochettino and other contenders. Although they managed to sign Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo last summer, it has been a disappointing season for United as they prepare to appoint a permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick will move into an advisory role at the end of this campaign and Ten Hag is, as things stand, the frontrunner to replace him. Ajax would not stand in his way, although they would reportedly require around £4m in compensation for his services in the dugout.

Speaking as part of a promotion for Betfair, the Brazil icon said: "Manchester United have spoken to Erik ten Hag about becoming their next manager and he is an odds-on favourite in the betting. Looking at what the Dutchman has been doing with Ajax, I'm sure he could be a great option to become United's next manager.
"He is an excellent coach. His attacking style and attractive football fits with United's identity and it's a pleasure to watch his Ajax team playing.
"So, I'm excited to imagine what he could do with a United squad filled with some of the best players in the world. He would be a great signing for Manchester United."
