Rival boss field phones calls and braces for 'significant interest' in Leeds United-linked star

Rotherham United are bracing themselves for 'significant interest' in goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, who was linked with Leeds United earlier this summer as the Whites look to address their goalkeeping situation.

With uncertainty surrounding Illan Meslier's future and Joel Robles' contract expiring, Leeds have work to do in the transfer market between the sticks this summer, with the likes of Johansson and Newcastle United stopper Karl Darlow being linked.

Millers boss Matt Taylor has now addressed the situation regarding his highly-rated goalkeeper, admitting that the phone calls have already started.

"Viktor is a man in demand," Taylor told the Rotherham Advertiser. "He was the best keeper in the Championship last season. He's one of the big reasons why we're still in the division.

"You can't win the awards and accolades he did last year and not attract attention, and his international recognition has increased his profile. Now he's known worldwide.

"We've fielded phone calls so far. Nothing concrete has come through on email."

The 24-year-old Swede put pen to paper on a new deal back in January which runs for another two seasons, strengthening Rotherham's hand in any negotiations this summer, but the club have just signed another goalkeeper in Dillon Phillips, formerly of Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic.

"We expect that if Viktor continues his form with us and on the international stage there will be significant interest in him," Taylor added. "That is a process that will come to a head at some point.

"When it does, I want to be able to rely on someone already in the building rather than go out and seek an expensive emergency loan."
