Rita Ora reveals wedding to Taika Waititi planned in two days: ‘There was no real getting down on one knee’

Rita Ora has revealed she planned her wedding to Taika Waititi in two days in a new interview with Glamour magazine.

The Praise You singer wed the Oscar winner, 47, last summer in a low-key ceremony and is now opening up on the details of their nuptials, revealing how important it was to her to have Waititi’s children apart of it.

Speaking about their special day, the Masked Singer judge revealed that the pair decided to skip the engagement and go straight to planning their vows.

The 32-year-old shared: “Well, honestly, there was no real getting down on one knee. It was more like, ‘I want to marry you. Let’s just do it.’

“Some women like to feel that real special attention that day. And everyone’s different. And for me – I think with my job, it is all… it’s very attention driven – I wanted to keep it private because my life and my career aren’t.”

She added: “The wedding was planned in two to three days, when I was out of cycle, which is what I call it when I’m not in album cycle mode.

“And his kids [Taika has two daughters from a previous marriage] were there and I really wanted them to be a part of it. It was either then or we had to wait for ages.

“I didn’t want to do it without my stepkids there. So, we just figured it out and we did it. And it was perfect.”

The star, who wore a Tom Ford dress for their wedding, added that there’s never a “dull moment” since marrying her best friend.

She continued: “There’s never a dull moment. We vibe off each other. I would say how we got on so well in the beginning, before we decided to ruin it all and start dating.

“We were friends for a long time. But after five years of friendship we were like, ‘We think we’re ready to take it to the next level.’ But we were such good friends, we were worried we would ruin what we had. But it was amazing.”

Aside from her marriage, Ora spoke candidly about her mother’s response to her hosting her 30th birthday during lockdown.

The starlet hit the headlines at the time for breaching Covid laws, which she was criticised and has since apologised for.

However, the media attention had nothing on her mother’s reaction, who works for the NHS.

Ora revealed: “She was upset with me, that was the worst bit, seeing her working every day and coming home exhausted and knowing what I did, was obviously avoidable.”
