Rita Ora reveals she proposed to Taika Waititi as they share new details about intimate LA wedding

Rita Ora has revealed she was the one who proposed to her husband Taika Waititi as the couple shared new details about their Los Angeles wedding on their first anniversary.

The pair tied the knot in an intimate ceremony after the popstar popped the question during a trip to Palm Springs.

Sharing images from their wedding with Vogue, the Poison singer revealed she wore three different Tom Ford looks as she and the Oscar winner exchanged vows at their home in LA.

Speaking about the proposal, the New Zealand filmmaker revealed: “She proposed to me, and I said ‘yes’ instantly.”

Discussing the ceremony, Waititi, 47, added: “There were about eight people there - just close friends and family, and parents on Zoom.”

For both the ceremony and reception, Ora donned three different looks by Tom Ford with her mother’s pearl and said the opportunity to wear his designs on her wedding day was a “dream come true”.

She said: “He’s now one of my close friends, and I adore and admire him so much. To get married in his dress was a dream come true.

“And because it wasn’t planned, I didn’t know if the right dress was even going to be in town, and I just took the risk and went to the Tom Ford shop, and they had it perfectly waiting with the veil, in my size, no alterations needed to be done.”

Meanwhile, Waititi looked equally dapper in a suit by Italian designer Brunello Cucinelli.

The Masked Singer UK judge also revealed that her sister Elena walked her sister down the aisle, while her other half was joined by his two daughters for the ceremony. Also in attendance was his best friend, Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, who flew over from New Zealand.

After their ‘I dos’, the newlyweds’ pal Guy Oseary hosted a celebratory dinner, and surprised them with an Elvis impersonator.

Back in May, Ora revealed she planned their wedding in two days.

The 32-year-old told Glamour: “Well, honestly, there was no real getting down on one knee. It was more like, ‘I want to marry you. Let’s just do it.’

“Some women like to feel that real special attention that day. And everyone’s different. And for me – I think with my job, it is all… it’s very attention driven – I wanted to keep it private because my life and my career aren’t.”

She added: “The wedding was planned in two to three days, when I was out of cycle, which is what I call it when I’m not in album cycle mode. And his kids [Taika has two daughters from a previous marriage] were there and I really wanted them to be a part of it. It was either then or we had to wait for ages.

“I didn’t want to do it without my stepkids there. So, we just figured it out and we did it. And it was perfect.”
