Rising ITV Corrie actress Millie Gibson tipped for bright future by co-star after impressing fans as Kelly Neelan

Rising Coronation Street star Millie Gibson arrived in Weatherfield as Kelly Neelan in 2019 and has gone on to win high praise for her portrayal of the troubled teenager.

She was at the centre of one of the long-running soap's most harrowing storylines when her character was sent to prison after being framed for the murder of Seb Franklin and later released before ending up homeless and turning to drugs.

Most recently her abusive mum Laura, who neglected Kelly while she was growing up, returned to the cobbles to tell her daughter that she is dying of stomach cancer and only has months left to live.

Next week her world is set to implode again when it's revealed that her guardian Gary Windass murdered her loan shark father Rick who has been missing since 2019.

Mikey North, who plays killer Gary, has tipped Millie for a bright future after realising her potential from her screen test.

The Corrie favourite, who has played Gary since 2004, said: "This girl is incredible. Whatever she chooses to do in her career will be amazing.

"I rate her better than any young actress that I've ever worked with on any job. She's incredible."

He added: "I remember seeing her screen test. She was amazing then but just seeing how much she's grown in the last couple of years she's really good."

Millie, from Broadbottom, previously starred in the ITV drama Butterfly starring Anna Friel, which followed the story of a transgender child.

She played Lily the sister of 11-year-old Max, who identified as female and wished to live life as a girl.

Her character initially came into Coronation Street for four episodes and became central to a major hate crime storyline which saw Seb and his girlfriend Nina Lucas savagely set upon by a gang of teens because of goth Nina's appearance.

Millie said previously about the storyline: "I'm over the moon because it's been so nice to explore different layers of her because when she first came in it was kind of like she was a troubled girl looking for her dad anf then it kind of just started to unfold where she had all thee other problems going on and all these different encounters with other characters."

Speaking about auditioning for Corrie she said: "I thought this was going to be good for a few days and I'm still here knocking about."

Corrie fan Brian Altman commented on Twitter: "What a marvellous actress making all Kelly Neelan’s scenes so believable. Loving your scenes @MillieGibson01."

@allforcorrie told her: "You’re such an amazing actress @MillieGibson01."

And @lilgem86 praised: "What an awesome actress @MillieGibson01 is!"

Millie was snapped up by Scream Management at MediaCityUK after being spotted in a drama class at Oldham Theatre Workshop at the age of 12.
