Rishi Sunak has been urged to block suspended Tories from standing for the party in the next election.
Currently six former Tory MPs sit in the Commons as independents over disciplinary matters - including allegations of sexual assault, harassment and drug abuse.
It comes after Labour ’s ruling body, the National Executive Committee, this week stepped in to block Jeremy Corbyn from standing for Labour in the next election, after Keir Starmer withdrew the whip from his predecessor.
Of the six Tories sitting as Independents, only Matt Hancock - who was suspended for appearing on I’m A Celebrity... has confirmed he won’t be standing in the next election.
And they all retain membership of the Conservative Party - which they would have to give up if they stood as independents in a general election.
Liberal Democrat Chief Whip Wendy Chamberlain said: “It’s outrageous that Rishi Sunak is yet to rule out the re-selection of individuals like David Warburton and Rob Roberts as candidates for the next general election."
She added: “They have no place in parliament and continue to shamelessly take their constituents for granted, they should not even be given the opportunity to stand.
“The Prime Minister said he was going to govern with integrity - but that looks like a hollow promise.
“He needs to confirm that he’ll block these MPs from standing as Conservatives again and promise not to restore the whip to them.”
Another unnamed Tory MP has not had the whip withdrawn, but has been ordered by the whips’ office to stay away from Parliament after being arrested on suspicion of serious sexual assault.
Ex-Tory Rob Roberts, who was stripped of the whip for harassing a staff member, still sits on the government benches in the Commons, retains the same constituency office, and still hosts his website with Bluetree Digital, a firm which exclusively offers services to Tory MPs, and is owned by the party.
Police dropped an investigation into an allegation of serious sexual assault against Solihull MP Julian Knight this week.
But the Conservative Party said the whip would not be restored to Mr Knight, “following further complaints made to the whips’ office”.
Mr Knight has always strongly denied any wrongdoing, saying he had been targeted by unfounded rumours and blackmail.
Andrew Bridgen had the whip withdrawn over “dangerous” claims he made claiming covid vaccinations are harmful.
Chris Pincher was stripped of the whip after he was accused of groping two men in a Private Members’ Club last year.
And Somerton and Frome MP David Warburton was suspended pending the outcome of an investigation into harassment and drug use.
A Conservative Party spokesperson said: “Whipless MPs cannot stand unless approved by a panel”
